
Argos Data Collector
In mass spectrometers, the output of an ion detector is often in the form of a small current generated by an electron multiplier. This current needs to be amplified, filtered, and converted to a voltage before it can be read by common measurement devices, such as ADCs and oscilloscopes.
This particular amplifier was designed to replace a commercial design that had failed and was no longer in production. The Amy Facility was able to design and build a new amplifier that matched the performance of this commercial pre-amp to get this instrument back into service. This two-stage amplifier features over-voltage input protection and an RF shield to lower induced noise.
